01 ABOUT
Syn takes its name from “syncretic,” a term rooted in Fauvism that highlights the fusion of diverse styles and cultures. This concept serves as the foundation of the magazine, which aims to blend various forms of art, philosophy, morality, and culture through the lens of creativity. The first issue explores a range of topics, including music, performance art, cinema, philosophy, and thoughtful reflections on the world of art.
02 BRANDING
The brand identity is built around the name Syn and is structured through the use of three distinct typographic forms, each representing a different cultural and stylistic influence. Together, these elements reflect the core concept of the project and its multidisciplinary approach.
The letter «S» draws inspiration from urban culture and contemporary art, conveying energy, experimentation, and modern creative expression. The letter «Y» references classical artistic traditions, bringing a sense of heritage, balance, and historical depth. In contrast, the letter «N» represents the rise of digital culture and modernity, symbolizing innovation, technology, and forward thinking. Combined, these three typographic elements create a clean, cohesive, and deeply symbolic visual identity that reflects the fusion of past, present, and emerging cultural influences.
03 DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
The first issue consists of 32 pages featuring innovative layouts developed through extensive research into a wide range of contemporary and experimental magazine designs. Each spread was carefully crafted to offer a fresh and considered approach, resulting in a visually engaging and refined reading experience.
The layout of the magazine was designed in close alignment with its visual identity, with the goal of unifying diverse design approaches into a coherent whole. Clear and highly legible typefaces were selected to support readability while reinforcing the clean and cohesive aesthetic of the publication. Bold and carefully curated imagery accompanies the text, with specific sections intentionally emphasized to guide the reader’s attention and create visual hierarchy throughout the magazine.
As previously mentioned, the publication explores not only art, but also philosophy and broader reflections on life and culture. The combination of impactful visuals and highlighted textual elements supports this multidisciplinary approach, reinforcing the magazine’s conceptual depth and encouraging a more immersive reading experience.
For these reasons, the magazine’s purpose and values are clearly communicated through its design. It seeks to inform and educate readers about diverse forms of artistic expression and human thought, while appealing to a wide and curious audience. Rather than simply presenting information, the magazine aims to provoke reflection, invite critical thinking, and foster a deeper level of engagement with its content.
